Are You Hungry?

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."
- Matthew 5:6

What does your spiritual diet look like right now? No judgement here - I know what it feels like to be spiritually starving. To be so devoid of spiritual nutrition that you’ll grab a handful of whatever is right in front of you and mindlessly shove it in your mouth. Allowing yourself to read or watch things that aren’t really benefitting you. Kind of like stress eating!

What are we feeding ourselves? You’re going about your day when hunger hits. You’re short on time so you run through the drive through and order that burger and fries…. If we feed ourselves a diet of fast food we might have instant gratification when we are short on time. We even temporarily stop those hunger pangs (I am not a fun person when I’m hangry!). But we get hungry again really quickly, and let’s face it, we may feel a little bit bad about what we just ate. The quick fix is never really as satisfying as the real thing. We also know that it’s not giving our bodies the fuel we need to be in peak physical performance.

When we fuel our bodies with real foods, organic fruits and vegetables, quality meats, homemade, fresh ingredients.. we can feel the difference. We feel lighter. Our body responds.

Our spiritual diet works the same way. When we feast off the Bible directly we are eating straight from the source, and it’s delicious! There’s no room for misinterpretation - we are getting the message directly from Holy Spirit. We aren’t receiving someone else’s chewed up, regurgitated version. We are receiving revelation straight from God, for ourselves. How’s that for fresh? Connecting to God this way strengthens our inner person!

Now don’t get me wrong - I love a good cheeseburger and (truffle!) fries every now and again. It’s okay to listen to a YouTube video, read a book, or watch an online sermon on occasion to supplement your diet. Just like that fast food, other resources can encourage us in a pinch… we just can’t make them our whole diet. We need to apply the 80:20 rule here. The bulk of what we eat needs to be the Word of God. I promise it will be so much more satisfying!

Abba Father, thank you for being here for me, for desiring to be close to me. I pray that You would give me the desire to know You more deeply as I study your Word. Show me parts of your character that I have not yet seen. In the name of Jesus, I release any hurt, beliefs, or other experiences that have influenced me to see you in any way other than who You are. You are the Truth, You are holy, You are always good. You are the great I AM. You are my shepherd, and guiding light. I am becoming more aware of you each day and I am so grateful that You are in my life. You are Elohim my Creator, Jireh my Provider, Jehovah Rapha my Healer, and Jehovah Shalom, the God of Peace. I am fully known, seen, and cared for by You, Lord. Help me to open my heart to love you more deeply. I am excited to get to know You better and see You as a friend.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
